Google Search Engine Tips

Google Search
When you think of an online search engine, you think Google. In a time when you  can log on to the internet and find out anything you want to know about any topic you can think of,Google has been there to help. From the beginning Google’s mission statement is “to organise the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”

With that in mind Google has a multitude of services and applications far beyond its original search engine which helps people whether it be for work, or just the day to day be more productive.
Everyday millions of people use Google search for numerous reasons. There is no defining demographic; students use Google for their school work, businesses use it for research and millions more use it purely for their entertainment. Did you realise that you may not be using Google Search to its optimal features? If you are not currently using these features you will find this list of tips will make your Google Search more productive and enhance the specificity of what you are trying to do.

Use the Tabs

On the Google search engine at the top of every search you will a row of tabs. Listed will be Web, Images, News and More. Google has implemented these to help you narrow what kind of search you want to do. For example, if you want a specific image of something click on Images and type what you want to see. This is the most introductory productive tip for Google, and if you are not using it, familiarise yourself with tabs as this can dramatically shorten your search if used properly.

Use Quotes

When looking for something specific type a quote into the search bar to minimise the presumption of Google Search. If you type your search in quotes it tells Google to search for the whole phrase and not the words individually in any order. This tip will have Google search the phrase exactly as written thus finding specific information located under other content that is not filtered accurately.

Use Colon to Search Specific Sites

There may be times when you want Google to search for information on a particular website only. The structure is very simple and is as follows.  Google Tips: Google.com. This feature lets Google know what you are looking for but only on one particular website.

Find Sites that are Similar to Other Sites

This is an uncommon productivity tip that can be used by virtually anyone. Say you have a favourite website that you visit all the time but want to find a site with resemblance.  Type related: website, this allows Google to provide you with websites that have near identical properties or services to your favourite site. This is a dynamic tip that will allow you to find new sites to visit.

Search Multiple Words or Phrases at Once

Google Search is very adaptable. It knows that you may want to find something by not only searching one word or phrase, that’s why it lets you search for multiples. This tip can help you compress the information to find exactly what you are looking for. The syntax looks like this: “How do I use Google” OR “Best way to use Google.”  In this case Google will search both phrases, and can be used for single words as well.

Keep it Simple

This is more of a general tip. Google can search for just about anything which means you don’t have to be precise every search. If you want to find a new job use this as the search, Jobs near Me. Google will provide you a list of websites related to jobs based on your location.

Google Search has Shortcuts

There are many commands that can be typed directly into Google to give you instant results. This feature enables Google to directly provide the information you seek at the top of the search results. Time is saved and less effort is needed searching through links.

- Weather *city* will give you the forecast for that place.

- Time *place* will give you the time of a region.

- Define: *word* will provide the definition you request.

These are just a few examples of commands one can use in Google Search to save time and effort.

Google Search is an extremely versatile tool that can be used to find whatever you might want to know. These tips will make your Google experience a little easier and more refined. No matter what you are trying to do there is a way to make Google Search work for you.
