Hard disks use space as more and more applications are downloaded, each item taking up a part of the memory and helping the drive reach full capacity. When your drive is full though there is only a few solutions to free up space and get rid of unwanted items.

There are several utilities that come with your operating system that allows you to free up space and get rid of unwanted items but you also have the option to install utilities not initially included with your OS. Here we will discuss some of the best methods to clean up your hard disks.

Windows disk Management:
Windows Disk management is included in your OS by default and is extremely useful for setting up and cleaning up drives. When using disk management to clean up your hard disk its possible to do so by formatting the entire drive or even just a partition. You can change and create new partitions here and change the file system type of your drive. All together allowing for an easy set up and management of your space. It is simple to use and available on Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows 2000.

Disk Wipe:
Disk wipe is a free utility that is offers a securer method of wiping drives and preventive  measures to nearly stop  any type of restore. This type of utility may not want to be used if there is important data stored on your drive and should only be used if securely repurposing a drive for later use with no hopes of restoring any data.
This application is much like the prior utility in the sense that it can erase data with a certain amount of guarantee that the data erased will not be possible to recover. The difference between this and the prior being this is up to standards with department of defence standards for the United States  and has a certificate feature available to authenticate the disk has been wiped securely.

Shreddit:
Shreddit while not being a free application is slightly more complicated but allows for more customization and accuracy while cleaning up your disks. It allows to shred single folders or files and allows you to choose the amount of write times and write patterns.

CC Cleaner:
CC cleaner is a popular disk cleaner with a few extra options for convenience. While it helps with our drives by removing unused/ junk files it also has a system optimization tools, drive wiper, system restore controller and a disk analyser  to inform you on what your disk space is being used on.

These are the top 5 hard disk utilities for cleaning I believe to be available at the moment and would recommend the use of any of them to ensure a properly working and healthy hard disk
